Shloka 10.1

“Krishna said: Again, O mightyarmed, hear My supreme word, which I speak for your benefit, as you are dear to Me.”
Key Teaching: Krishna imparts supreme knowledge for Arjuna’s benefit.
Theme: Guidance, Dharma, Vibhuti Yoga.
Description:
Krishna teaches that he will again share his supreme word for Arjuna’s benefit, as he is dear to him. This verse, opening Chapter 10, addresses Arjuna’s need for divine understanding (2.9). The themes of guidance, as Krishna instructs, dharma, as he clarifies divine knowledge, and Vibhuti Yoga, as he begins revealing his glories, are central.

In the Mahabharata, Arjuna’s confusion (1.28–46) contrasts with Duryodhana’s ignorance (1.3–11). Krishna’s affection urges Arjuna to receive this knowledge for his Kshatriya duty, aligning with Karma Yoga (2.47, 9.34). Krishna’s teaching is personal.

Philosophically, this verse addresses the human need for divine guidance, a theme Krishna refines with teachings on his supremacy (9.1). Arjuna’s reluctance complicates his dharma, necessitating Krishna’s guidance to inspire receptivity. The theme of Vibhuti Yoga underscores the Gita’s focus on divine glories.

Sanjaya’s narration frames Krishna’s teaching objectively, emphasizing its benevolent clarity. This verse serves as a metaphor for life’s quest for truth, where divine favor aids understanding. Krishna’s teaching prepares readers for performing duty with divine inspiration, aligning with liberation.
