Shloka 10.39

“I am the seed of all beings, O Arjuna; there is no being, moving or unmoving, that exists without Me.”
Key Teaching: Krishna is the seed of all beings, moving and unmoving.
Theme: Guidance, Dharma, Vibhuti Yoga.
Description:
Krishna teaches that he is the seed of all beings, moving or unmoving, and nothing exists without him. This verse, continuing 10.38, addresses Arjuna’s need to understand Krishna’s allpervading nature (2.9, 10.16). The themes of guidance, as Krishna instructs, dharma, as he clarifies his universal presence, and Vibhuti Yoga, as he emphasizes his omnipresence, are central.

In the Mahabharata, Arjuna’s limited view (1.28–46) contrasts with Duryodhana’s ignorance (1.3–11). Krishna urges Arjuna to see him as the source of all for his Kshatriya duty, aligning with Karma Yoga (2.47, 10.20). Krishna is the universal seed.

Philosophically, this verse addresses the human quest for universal truth, a theme Krishna refines with teachings on his pervasion (9.4). Arjuna’s eagerness reflects Krishna’s guidance overcoming reluctance. The theme of Vibhuti Yoga underscores the Gita’s focus on divine omnipresence.

Sanjaya’s narration frames Krishna’s teaching objectively, emphasizing its universal clarity. This verse serves as a metaphor for life’s origin, where Krishna is the seed. Krishna’s teaching prepares readers for performing duty with divine awareness, aligning with liberation.
