Shloka 10.41

“Whatever is glorious, prosperous, or powerful, know that to be a manifestation of a fraction of My splendor.”
Key Teaching: All glorious and powerful things are a fraction of Krishna’s splendor.
Theme: Guidance, Dharma, Vibhuti Yoga.
Description:
Krishna teaches that whatever is glorious, prosperous, or powerful is a manifestation of a fraction of his splendor. This verse, continuing 10.40, addresses Arjuna’s request to understand Krishna’s glories (2.9, 10.16). The themes of guidance, as Krishna instructs, dharma, as he clarifies his universal presence, and Vibhuti Yoga, as he summarizes his manifestations, are central.

In the Mahabharata, Arjuna’s limited view (1.28–46) contrasts with Duryodhana’s ignorance (1.3–11). Krishna urges Arjuna to see his splendor in all greatness for his Kshatriya duty, aligning with Karma Yoga (2.47, 10.39). Krishna’s splendor is universal.

Philosophically, this verse addresses the human awe of greatness, a theme Krishna refines with teachings on his pervasion (10.19). Arjuna’s eagerness reflects Krishna’s guidance overcoming reluctance. The theme of Vibhuti Yoga underscores the Gita’s focus on divine omnipresence.

Sanjaya’s narration frames Krishna’s teaching objectively, emphasizing its universal clarity. This verse serves as a metaphor for life’s excellence, where Krishna’s splendor shines. Krishna’s teaching prepares readers for performing duty with divine recognition, aligning with liberation.
