Srimad Bhagavad Gita Shloka 11.14

Shloka 11.14

“Then, filled with wonder, his hair standing on end, Arjuna bowed to the Lord, with hands folded, and spoke.”
Key Teaching: Arjuna, awestruck, bows to Krishna’s cosmic form.
Theme: Guidance, Dharma, Vishwarupa Darshana Yoga.
Description:
Sanjaya narrates that Arjuna, filled with wonder and hair standing on end, bowed to Krishna with folded hands and spoke. This verse, continuing 11.13, addresses Arjuna’s reaction to the cosmic form (2.9, 11.3). The themes of guidance, as Krishna’s revelation inspires, dharma, as Arjuna responds reverently, and Vishwarupa Darshana Yoga, as he reacts to the vision, are central.

In the Mahabharata, Arjuna’s awe (1.28–46) contrasts with Duryodhana’s ignorance (1.3–11). Arjuna’s reverence supports his Kshatriya duty, aligning with Karma Yoga (2.47, 11.13). Arjuna’s awe reflects divine impact.

Philosophically, this verse addresses the human response to divine vision, a theme Krishna refines with teachings on his glory (10.19). Arjuna’s reaction reflects Krishna’s guidance overcoming reluctance. The theme of Vishwarupa Darshana Yoga underscores the Gita’s focus on divine awe.

Sanjaya’s narration frames Arjuna’s response objectively, emphasizing its reverent clarity. This verse serves as a metaphor for life’s wonder, where Krishna’s form inspires reverence. Krishna’s revelation prepares readers for performing duty with divine humility, aligning with liberation.
