Srimad Bhagavad Gita Shloka 18.77

Shloka 18.77

“And remembering the most wonderful form of Hari, great is my astonishment, O King, and I rejoice again and again.”
Key Teaching: Sanjaya rejoices in Krishna’s cosmic form.
Theme: Guidance, Dharma, Moksha Sannyasa Yoga, Bhakti Yoga.
Description:
Sanjaya expresses astonishment and joy at recalling Krishna’s wonderful cosmic form (Vishvarupa). This verse, continuing 18.76, reflects on Arjuna’s inquiry (2.9, 13.1, 18.1). The themes of guidance, as Sanjaya reflects on Krishna, dharma, as he supports the dialogue, Moksha Sannyasa Yoga, as he discusses liberation, and Bhakti Yoga, as he expresses awe, are central.

In the Mahabharata, Krishna’s cosmic form (11.9–46) awes Arjuna, contrasting Duryodhana’s ignorance (1.3–11). This teaching aligns with Bhakti Yoga (11.54) and Jnana Yoga (13.12), emphasizing divine vision. Krishna’s form (11.9) inspires Sanjaya’s awe.

Philosophically, this verse celebrates Krishna’s divinity, a theme Krishna refines with teachings on Vishvarupa (11.54). Sanjaya’s awe underscores the Gita’s divine revelation. The themes of Moksha Sannyasa Yoga and Bhakti Yoga underscore the Gita’s focus on divine awe.

Sanjaya’s narration frames his words, emphasizing their awestruck clarity. This verse serves as a metaphor for life’s wonder, where divine vision inspires. Krishna’s teaching prepares readers to engage with divine awe, aligning with liberation.
